GHANA ARMED FORCES COMMAND AND STAFF COLLEGE SENIOR DIVISION UNDERTAKES REGIONAL STUDY TOUR

Ghana Armed Forces Command and Staff College (GAFCSC) Senior Division embarks on environmental study tour to the 10 Regions each year to research into how government policies are being implemented and their effects on the citizenry. The theme for the Regional Study Tour (RST) 2017 was “Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies as Agents of Security, Safety and Development”. Four main objectives were researched into were:
1. Analyse the impact of prevailing interventions for addressing illegal exploitation of natural resources
2. Examine the trends of crime in the localities and effectiveness of security architecture to combat crime.
3. Study the potential, viability and preparedness of MMDAs to implement government’s policy of One District One to address youth unemployment.
4. Evaluate the implementation of government’s policy of planting for food and jobs in the MMDAs and their efforts towards reducing post-harvest losses.
The 2017 RST took place from 19-25 November 2017 and the regions visited were Central, Northern and Upper West Regions.

CENTRAL REGION

The Central Regional Team was made up of 11 permanent and 20 students were led by the Assistant Commandant, Commodore S Walker. The team visited the Regional Coordinating Council, the Komenda/Edina/Eguafo/Abirem Municipal, and Upper Denkyira Municipal, Ajumako/Enyan/Essiam District and Awutu Senya District Assemblies. The Team also visited the Komenda Sugar Factory, the Elmina Castle and paid courtesy calls on the Oguaahene and the Denkyira Omanhene.

NORTHERN REGION

The Northern Regional Team was composed of 10 permanent staff and 20 students. The team was led by the Commandant, Rear Admiral Seth Amoama who paid a courtesy call on the Northern Regional Minister. At the Northern Regional Coordinating Council (RCC) the team was briefed by some members of the RCC on the 4 thematic areas. The team later visited the Tamale Metropolitan, West Mamprusi District, Savelugu/Nanton Municipal, Bole District and the Gonja West District Assemblies. The team paid courtesy calls on the Gukpe Naa and the Gonja King. The team also visited the Labaranga Mosque, the Mystery Stone at Labaranga and Galamsey site at Bole.

UPPER WEST REGION

The Upper West Regional Team was made up of 9 permanent staff and 19 students. The team was led by the Deputy Commandant, Brigadier General AK Boimah. The team was briefed by some members of the RCC on the 4 thematic areas. The team visited the Wa Municipal, Wa West District, the Wa East District, the Sisala East District, the Nadowli District Assemblies. The team also visited the Hamile border post and the Hippo Sanctuary. The team later donated assorted food items and presented an undisclosed amount of GHc200.00 to students of the School for the Blind, Wa.

The students will write reports on their research findings which will be submitted to the Presidency, the RCCs and the various Assemblies. The teams will also do presentations on their research findings which will be attended by the various Regional Ministers and the Chief Executives of the MMDAs visited.
