A colorful graduation ceremony has been held for students of Ghana Armed Forces Command and Staff College (GAFCSC) Junior Division (Jnr Div) Course 70 at Otu Barracks on Friday 14 December 2018. The students from 4 different African countries assembled in the College on August 2018 and went through 18 weeks of intensive studies.

Presenting his report during the ceremony, the Assistant Commandant in charge of the Jnr Div, Brigadier General MN Akpatsu said that the Course was made up of 52 students consisting of 42 personnel from the Ghana Armed Forces, 1 from Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority, 2 from the Botswana Defense Force, 2 from the Armed Forces of Liberia and 5 from the Nigerian Armed Forces. All the students successfully went through the programme.

In his address Brigadier General SK Baafi, a past Commandant of the College, told the graduates to be focused and meticulous in the discharge of their duties. He urged them to exhibit a high standard of integrity and professionalism wherever they find themselves. He expressed his delight about the involvement of foreign students on the Course and looked forward to more collaboration with other stakeholders especially personnel from other security services. He further congratulated the graduates and commended the leadership of the College for a successfully running the course. The applauded the overall best students and told her to strife to maintain her standard.

The ceremony was attended by Director General (Training), Directors from General Headquarters and the 3 Services. Also present were Senior Officers from sister Security Services, some Defence Advisors/Attaches, and students of Senior Div Course 40, some permanent staff of the College, families and friends of the graduating students. The Commandant of the College, Rear Admiral Seth Amoama conferred the ‘jsc’ degrees on the graduates and presented them with certificates.

Some deserving graduates were awarded prizes to for their outstanding performances on the Course. In the Assistant Commandant’s Prize Essay, the 1st prize went to Lt (GN) KA Duodu while Flt Lt BA Ocquaye and Capt CN Chikwe of the Nigerian Army took the 2nd and 3rd prizes respectively. The best in the Commandant’s Prize went to Squadron Leader YA Boateng, whilst the 2nd and 3rd places went to Capt MY Wase and Maj F Kaku. ARO N Musah was the best Allied Security Services Award.
In the definitive prizes, the 3rd best award went to Capt CN Chikwe whereas the 2nd best student went to Maj P Atuiri. The Overall best student award went to Lt (GN) R Kyei-Amponsah. It is the first time that a female officer has scoped the ultimate prize. She was specially congratulated by the guest of honor who implored her to work even harder in her future endeavors to merit her promotions and appointments.
