The Experiential Learning Packages of Ghana Armed Forces Command and Staff College (GAFCSC) is a core module for both the military package and the Master of Science and International Politics. It is aimed at developing in the students of the Senior Division a broad perspective of national and international affairs. This package is in two parts. The Regional Study Tour (RST) and the Africa Study Tour (AST). The RST was undertaken in November 2018 whilst AST was done in April 2019.
The AST is designed to provide students the opportunity to undertake an in-depth study of some selected African countries. This is to enable the students gain a better understanding of the political, socio-economic and defence policies of the countries to be visited with a view to identifying areas of potential cooperation between Ghana and those countries.
For the 2019 AST student of Snr Div Course 40 and staff of the College visited Ethiopia, Republic of Congo, Sierra Leone, Tunisia and Zimbabwe.
The theme for the 2019 AST was “Fostering an Inclusive and Sustainable Developmental Agenda for Africa”. Flowing from the theme students’ researched into the under listed objectives:
- Do an assessment of national ownership of policies aimed at mobilizing resources that would create the needed environment for the rapid integration of the African continent.
- study and analyze the major political and socio-economic policies that are being implanted to enhance job opportunities for the youth and stem the tide of migration from the continent.
- Identify the challenges militating against sub-regional and regional cooperation.
