A 4-man delegation led by Brig Gen Anderson Matlho, from the Botswana Defence Force Command and Staff College, carried out a benchmarking exercise at the Ghana Armed Forces Command and Staff College (GAFCSC) from Monday 15 May to Friday 19 May 2023.
The visit was aimed at exploring collaboration models, joint accreditation of learning programmes, awards of certificates, College structures, quality assurance structures and oversight bodies among others. This was in line with the intention to introduce a Master of Arts in Defence and Strategic Studies at the Botswana Defence Force Command and Staff College.
As part of the exercise, the delegation interacted with the Commandant and key appointment holders of GAFCSC. They were apprised of the overview of GAFCSC, its academic reforms, administrative challenges, and future strategic plan. Also, there were discussions on curriculum development and a conducted tour of the various facilities in the College.
The delegation also visited the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA), where they conferred with the Rector and management on the school’s relationship with GAFCSC, especially in the area of capacity building.
Additionally, they called on the Director-General and management of the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) and had discussions bordering on quality assurance, accreditation and capacity building.
Other places visited to discuss issues pertaining to the benchmarking exercise were the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Center (KAIPTC) and the General Headquarters of the Ghana Armed Forces, Burma camp.
Brig Gen Anderson Matlho on behalf of the delegation, expressed his profound gratitude to the Military High Command as well as the Commandant and staff of GAFCSC for hosting them and facilitating the successful conduct of their benchmarking exercise. He also gave an assurance of Botswana’s continuous collaboration with GAFCSC and the Ghana Armed Forces in general.
Other members of the delegation were Col Segolame Sebenyane, the Commandant of the Botswana Defence Force Command and Staff College, Professor Rebecca Lekoko, Dean of the College and Dr Kebapetse Lotshwao, Head of Department, University of Botswana.
