A reconnoiter team from the Canadian Department of National Defence visited the Ghana Armed Forces Command and Staff College (GAFCSC) on Wednesday 24 November 2021. The ten-member team, led by Lt Col Eric Pellicano, and under the bilateral Technical Assistance and Training (TA&T) programme of Elsie Initiative for Women in Peace Operations, was on a 5-day official visit to the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF).
The purpose of the visit was to collect first-hand information on requirements for the programmes outlined in the TA&T between GAF and the Canadian Government. This includes the design and development of gender training curriculum for all levels of training in the GAF to develop its gender policy.
In a briefing held in honour of the team, the Commandant of GAFCSC, Rear Admiral Moses Beick-Baffour, highlighted that female participation as staff members in the College was low and hoped that the situation would improve shortly. He however added that the College just saw off the first female Directing Staff at the Senior Staff Course from the Nigerian Armed Forces. He further mentioned that there was another Ghanaian female Directing Staff at the Junior Division of the College, and two more female staff officers at the GAFCSC Headquarters.
