As part of the foundation term for the Ghana Armed Forces Command and Staff College (GAFCSC) Senior Division, students undergo a single service week for three weeks. Each week is dedicated to one Arm of Service (Army, Navy, or Air Force). For Senior Command and Staff Course 43, the Service weeks commenced on Monday 11 October 2021 and ended on Friday, 29 October 2021.

The first week was dedicated to the Army. The General Officer Commanding Southern Command, Brigadier General Michael Ayisi Amoah, who represented the Chief of the Army Staff (COAS), shared the COAS’ vision for the Army for the next decade with the students. The Army week also saw students taking part in a Map Exercise and a Tactical Exercise Without Troops. Guest Lecturers from the Army Headquarters also lectured students on the organisations and roles of the Infantry Battalion, the Reconnaissance and Armour, Engineers, and Signals.

Similarly, a designated naval week followed with a navy-oriented programme where guest lecturers from the Naval Headquarters took students through Maritime Environment, Maritime Power, Operational Concepts, and types of naval platforms, including submarines. The Chief of the Naval Staff, Rear Admiral Issah Yakubu, also shared his vision for the Navy with the students. The Navy week climaxed with a visit to the Western Naval Command (WNC), where Commodore Samuel Walker, the Flag Officer Commanding WNC, welcomed staff and students to the Base in particular, and the region at large. The team had the opportunity to have sea experience on some Ghana Navy Fast Attack Crafts classified into Snake Class Ships and Warrior Class Ships.

Furthermore, students had the opportunity to be treated to lectures on the historical development of Airpower and the history of the Ghana Air Force, among others, during the Air Force week. Air Commodore David Anetey Akron, Base Commander of the Air Force Base Tamale, representing the Chief of Air Staff (CAS), shared the CAS’ vision for the Air Force with the students. The Air Force week culminated in a visit to the Air Force Base Accra, where staff and students were received by Air Commodore Joshua Mensah-Larkai, Base Commander of the Air Force Base Accra.

The entire Services component weeks ended with a Land Combat Power Demonstration on Friday, 29 October 2021, at the Bundase Training Camp under the auspices of the Chief of the Defence Staff, Vice Admiral Seth Amoama. The demonstration was organised by the Ghana Armed Forces in honour of Senior Command and Staff students of GAFCSC.
