The Ghana Armed Forces Command and Staff College (GAFCSC) on Friday 30 June 2023 held a Graduation Ceremony, for students of Junior Staff Course 79. The Course which commenced on 10 February 2023 was made up of 52 officers from the Ghana Armed Forces, 1 from the Armed Forces of Liberia, 1 from the Gambian Armed Forces, 8 from the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and 2 from the Botswana Defence Force.
The Guest of Honour for the ceremony, Colonel Ani Asamoah (Rtd) in his address, emphasized the importance of the course. He indicated that it had afforded the graduands the opportunity to broaden their professional and general outlook on matters of both national and international interest. He further said the course had equipped them with the knowledge and skills essential to help them advance effectively and efficiently in discharging their duties. He, therefore, charged them to uphold the good image of the College at all times by applying the knowledge and expertise acquired during the course.
Col Asamoah (Rtd) expressed his delight about the participation and provision of assistance by sister Security Services during the 2-week Internal Security and Counter-insurgency package of the course. He also commended the Commandant, Assistant Commandant, and the staff of GAFCSC for their tireless efforts in achieving such professional excellence.
The Assistant Commandant of the Junior Division, Brigadier General Albert Kwadwo Dawohoso in his course report, stated that as part of the experiential studies package of the College, Junior Staff Course 79 undertook an Environmental Study Tour to the Western Region to conduct research into some of the existing challenges to the development of the Region. He disclosed that the comprehensive reports produced by the students would be forwarded to higher headquarters for appropriate attention.
Brig Gen Dawohoso acknowledged the various forms of assistance rendered to the Junior Division in the areas of training and logistics during the period of the course. He commended the support from all the Departments and Directorates of the General Headquarters, especially from General Headquarters Training and all the training and logistics support units of the Ghana Armed Forces.
Awards were presented to graduands who excelled in various aspects of the course. The Overall Best Student went to Major Anthony Raphael Darko, the second best student to Major Josephson Junior Kwame Odoi, and the third best student to Captain Kingsley Asare Narh. Flight Lieutenant Kolade Temitope Alao of the Nigerian Air Force received the Best Allied Student award.
For the Assistant Commandant’s Research Paper Competition, the best paper went to Captain Kingsley Asare Narh, the second best to Flight Lieutenant Musa Abdullahi Abdulhafiz, and the third best paper to Squadron Leader Ama Serwah. The Everard Award was presented to Maj Stephen Wonoo Addai-Mensah, and the best female student award was presented to Squadron Leader Ameenah Tahiru.
