As part of the Experiential Learning Package for the Past Staff Course (psc) and the Masters in Defence International (MDIP students of Senior Division Course 41 undertook a Regional Environmental Study Tour from 17 to 23 November 19. The students were accompanied by their Directing Staff and some permanent staff of the College.

The tour was undertaken in Three (3) of the newly created Regions. These were Bono East, Western North and Oti Regions. The study teams visited the regions concurrently.

The theme for the Regional Study Tour (RST) 2019 was “Realizing the objectives of the creation of the new regions for accelerated development”.

The study will be focused on the following objectives:

  1. An evaluation of the impact of decentralization on poverty alleviation and youth unemployment.
  2. An assessment of the extent of financial decentralization in support of rural development.
  3. An examination of the effectiveness of decentralized security architecture in crime prevention, safety and security.
  4. An analysis of the place and role of chieftaincy in the decentralized administration at the Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies.

The teams visited the various Regional Coordinating Councils and some Municipal and District Assemblies. All Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies visited were warmly received the Teams and briefed. Gifts were exchanged with dignitaries in places the visited.

There was an administrative debrief on the tour at the Ankrah Hall on Monday 25 November 19. Additionally, each team made an oral presentation of their research findings to the College on Friday 29 November 19.  The various teams will submit copies of their research findings which will be submitted to the Office of the President and the Regional Coordinating Councils for the feasible ones to be implemented.

All the Teams did presentations on their research findings to the College on Friday 29 November 2019. The final reports of the Teams will be presented to higher Command for onward submission to the government for the implementation of their recommendations. On the whole, the 2019 Regional Study Tour went very well.
