On Friday 12 March 2021, The Ghana Armed Forces Command and Staff College (GAFCSC) held its 14th matriculation for fresh students of the Master of Science in Defence and International Politics programme (MDIP). The ceremony was the 7th for the weekend programme and the 14th in total for the College. Speaking at the ceremony, Dr Yaw Appiah Marfo who represented the Rector of the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA), urged the students to give of their best and adhere to directives. He said this would help shape them up to emerge as leaders at various levels who would contribute their quota to both national and global security.
In his welcome address, the Commandant of the College, Rear Admiral Moses Beick-Baffour, noted that for more than a decade the college collaborated with the University of Ghana through the Legon Centre for International Affairs and Diplomacy, and GIMPA to deliver a Masters programme in International Relations, Governance and Leadership. Later, the College received programme and institutional accreditation to run its own unique Masters programme (the MDIP) which was subsequently opened to the general public as a weekend course leading to the 7th matriculation ceremony on Friday 12 March 2021. The Commandant underscored that the world today was faced with a labyrinth of challenges such as waste management, unemployment, poverty, ethnic intolerance, and so on, which have defence and security connotation threatening individual, state and global stability. He added that national and global insecurity had been exacerbated by the rise in activities of non-state actors such as terrorists and that the knowledge and exposure the students were about to obtain was relevant. He further added that the College would equip the students with its core values; honesty, integrity and dedication to guide the students towards a successful completion of the course.
A total of forty-six students were matriculated. The course representative, Mr Syllas Aresia Arthur, signed the matricular on behalf of his course mates after which he delivered the expectations of the matriculants.
