GAFCSC HOLDS JOINT MATRICULATION CEREMONY

The Ghana Armed Forces Command and Staff College (GAFCSC) has held a Joint Matriculation Ceremony for students of Senior Command and Staff Course (SCSC) 48 pursuing the Master of Science in Defence and International Politics, Junior Staff Course (JSC) 86 pursuing the Post-Graduate Diploma in Defence and Security Studies and students of the PhD in Defence and International Politics, Cohort 3, on Wednesday, 30 September 2026, at Hamidu Hall.

A total of 171 students were matriculated, comprising 88 students of SCSC 48, 70 students of JSC 86 and 13 students of the PhD in Defence and International Politics Cohort 3. The ceremony formally admitted the students into their respective programmes.

The Commandant of the College, Major General (Maj Gen) Jackson Wonje, in his welcome address stated that, the joint matriculation reflects the growth and transformation of the College's academic programmes, noting that GAFCSC had evolved from providing higher military education to offering postgraduate and doctoral programmes in defence, security and international politics.

Maj Gen Wonje further noted that the College's academic development had benefited from the experience and tutelage of institutions including the Legon Centre for International Affairs and Diplomacy (LECIAD) of the University of Ghana and the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA).

He expressed confidence that, the College, now operating its programmes under the supervision of the National Defence University is on the right path to strengthening its reputation as a Centre of Excellence for professional and academic education.

He urged the matriculants to uphold the values of integrity, honesty, dedication, discipline and ensure that their conduct does not tarnish the image and high standards associated with the College. He further encouraged them to use the knowledge and exposure gained during their studies to contribute meaningfully to national, regional and global security.

The Guest of Honour and President of the National Defence University (NDU), Air Vice Marshal (AVM) Felix Nana Adom Asante, congratulated the matriculants and noted that the programmes would equip them with knowledge and critical thinking skills to understand and respond to emerging security challenges, including violent extremism, cross-border crime, cyber threats, humanitarian crises and geopolitical tensions.

He encouraged the students to approach their studies with diligence, passion and discipline, stressing that GAFCSC, as a constituent college of NDU, is committed to producing ethical, knowledgeable and disciplined graduates capable of addressing complex security and governance challenges.
