GAFCSC MARKS GOLDEN JUBILEE WITH HEALTH WALK AND FUN GAMES

The Ghana Armed Forces Command and Staff College (GAFCSC) organised a Health Walk and Fun Games on Wednesday, 12 August 2026, as part of activities marking its 50th Anniversary celebration.

The Health Walk commenced at the Nicholson stadium in Burma Camp and ended at the 48 Engineers Regiment Sports Complex in Teshie, where the Fun Games were held. The activities aimed at promoting physical fitness, healthy living, teamwork and esprit de corps.

The event brought together Officers, Students, Directing Staff, Civilian employees, Alumni and Other stakeholders of the College. The Fun Games featured a number of sporting activities, including soccer, volleyball and tug of peace, which provided participants with the opportunity to demonstrate teamwork, discipline, sporting skills and healthy competition.

Speaking at the event, the Chief of Staff of the Ghana Armed Forces and Guest of Honour, Air Vice Marshal (AVM) Joshua Lartei Mensah-Larkai, stated that the 50-year journey of GAFCSC represented resilience, relevance, adaptability and a sustained commitment to professional military education. He further said the College had, over the years, produced competent, disciplined and forward-looking leaders who had served Ghana, Africa and the wider international community with distinction. He noted that the milestone gave meaning to the Golden Jubilee theme, "Celebrating 50 Years of Excellence in Professional Military Education."

The Guest of Honour further urged GAFCSC to remain focused on preparing military leaders for the emerging security environment. He noted that developments in technology, artificial intelligence, cyber operations, autonomous systems, information warfare and multi-domain operations were changing the character of conflict and the demands placed on military leaders.

He therefore encouraged the College to continue to modernise its curriculum, strengthen research, embrace innovation, deepen international partnerships and prepare officers capable of thinking critically and leading effectively in complex and uncertain environments. He then cautioned that the proud history of GAFCSC should not become a place of rest, but should serve as a platform for greater achievement.

AVM Mensah-Larkai also congratulated the Golden Jubilee graduating students for successfully completing one year of rigorous training and urged them to remain committed to transforming and preparing the Ghana Armed Forces, Sister Armed Forces and the African continent to effectively respond to the volatile, uncertain, complex and ambiguous (VUCA) security environment. He further congratulated all participants of the Health Walk, citing physical fitness as an essential component of effective military leadership. He emphasised that a professional military leader must be fit in body, sharp in mind and strong in character urging all personnel to view physical fitness and academic excellence as mutually reinforcing, adding that a healthy body supports a disciplined mind and sound judgement.

He expressed appreciation to all Sponsors, Friends and the Media for their support and contributions towards the success of the 50th Anniversary celebrations and the Health Walk. He commended the GAFCSC Commandant, Major General (Maj Gen) Jackson Wonje, and the organising committee for ensuring that the Golden Jubilee celebration was not merely a commemoration of the passage of time, but an opportunity to recognise the College's history, former Commandants, Faculty, Staff, Students and Alumni whose contributions had shaped the institution.

The event ended with refreshments and a live band performance climaxing with a group photograph.
