GAFCSC OPENS 2025 COUNTER-TERRORISM AND COUNTER-IMPROVISED EXPLOSIVE DEVICES COURSE

The Ghana Armed Forces Command and Staff College (GAFCSC) has officially opened the 2025 Counter-Terrorism and Counter-Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) Course at the Hamidu Hall, Teshie on Tuesday, 5 August 2025.

The Principal General Staff Officer at the Ministry of Defence, Brigadier General Ben Gah, speaking on behalf of the Deputy Minister for Defence, Honorable Ernest Brogya Genfi, emphasized the urgent need to strengthen Ghana’s security posture in response to growing terrorist threats in the region.

He identified the Sahel as a hotspot for violent extremist activities, noting the increasing use of IEDs by such groups to target military personnel and destabilise coastal countries like Ghana.

The course, he said, is designed to provide participants with an in-depth understanding of the evolving threat landscape and to equip them with the technical and tactical competencies required to detect, counter, and prevent IED-related incidents.

He concluded by encouraging inter-agency collaboration and promoting a proactive approach to national and regional security. Brig Gen Ben Gah reaffirmed Ghana’s commitment to maintaining peace and stability through continuous training, vigilance, and strategic cooperation.
