JUNIOR STAFF COURSE 83 VISITS 1 INFANTRY BATTALION AND 48 ENGINEERS REGIMENT

As part of the program for Junior Staff Course 83, students and staff visited 1 Infantry Battalion (1Bn) and 48 Engineer Regiment of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) on Tuesday 18 and Friday 21 February, 2025 at the Units' Headquarters in Tema and Accra respectively. The purpose of the visits was for students to familiarize themselves with the organization and roles on an Infantry Battalion and the Engineer Regiment in the field. It was also to afford them the opportunity to observe demonstrations on the deployments of an infantry battalion and the engineers in the field.

At 1 BN, staff and students led by the General Staff Officer Grade I, Lieutenant Colonel Francis Ackom were received by the Commanding Officer (CO), Lieutenant Colonel Frank Adams. The delegation received an insightful briefing on the organization and roles as well as the operations of the infantry battalion in the field.

On visiting the 48 Engineer Regiment, the Course, led by the Term Coordinator, Lt Col Bernard Boateng Bediako, was welcomed by the CO of the 48 Engineer Regiment, Lt Col Frank Osei Amponsah. In his welcoming address, the CO encouraged students to utilize the opportunity at GAFCSC to enrich their knowledge and understanding of the art of warfare, leadership, and command.

A presentation on the historical background of the unit, organizational structure, roles, and employment of engineers was given. There was also a demonstration at the Engineers Training School on improvised explosive devices, fields, and equipment display. The delegation was treated to lunch by the CO of ETS, Lt Col Ampadu Banasco, and CO of 48 Engr at the ETS reception hall.
