MAJ GEN WONJE SENDS OFF LT COL WABANIE

The Commandant of the Ghana Armed Forces Command and Staff College (GAFCSC), Major General(Maj Gen) Jackson Wonje, on behalf of the Staff College fraternity sent off Lieutenant Colonel(Lt Col) Magdeline Wabanie, South African Directing Staff (DS) for her years of outstanding dedication and distinguished service to the College.

The send off ceremony which took place at the Commandant’s office in Teshie on Wednesday 11 March, 2026 was to recognize and acknowledge Lt Col Wabanie for her commitment, dedication to service, innovation, and contributions to the academic development of the College for the past two years.

In his address, the Commandant, Maj Gen Wonje, applauded and expressed his appreciation to Lt Col Wabanie for her remarkable contributions to the College and the Ghana Armed Forces as a whole. He also extended his gratitude to the Commandant of the South Africa National Defence College for their continued collaboration and support to the GAFCSC.

Maj Gen Wonje encouraged Lt Col Wabanie to share the experiences and innovations she acquired during her time at GAFCSC to assist programmes in South African military institutions. He also wished her well in her future endeavours and a safe journey back to South Africa.

In her remarks, Lt Col Wabanie expressed her gratitude to the Commandant and the entire Staff College fraternity for the opportunity and hospitality received during her two years stay in Ghana as a member of the Directing Staff of GAFCSC. She indicated that being the first female Directing Staff from her country to be sent on an exchange programme in Ghana was a great privilege. She expressed her gratitude and appreciation to her home, government and the South Africa Defence force.

Lt Col Wabanie also commended Ghana’s excellent educational system, which she said had had significant impact on her son’s education within her stay. She further promised to share the knowledge and experiences gained in Ghana with her country and expressed her desire to return to Ghana when she gets another opportunity.

To honour her service and dedication to the College, the Commandant presented to Lt Col Wabanie, a Ghanaian kente cloth, a customized plaque, and a stole as tokens of appreciation from the College.
