STAKEHOLDERS IN THE MARITIME SECTOR URGED TO COMBAT EXPLOITATION AND DISRUPTION

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Dalex Finance and Leasing Company Limited, Mr Kenneth Kwamina Thompson, has urged stakeholders of the Maritime Sector to safeguard the maritime domain from unlawful exploitation. He emphasized this during the closing ceremony of this year’s Maritime Sector Governance Course, held at GAFCSC on Friday, 16 February 2024.

Delivering a compelling speech at the ceremony, Mr Thompson who was the Guest of Honour, highlighted the pressing need for concerted efforts to safeguard the maritime sector from individuals and organizations seeking to exploit vulnerabilities for personal gain, to the detriment of countries and the broader sub-region.

He mentioned that effective and coordinated strategies are essential to ensure sustainable utilization of the maritime enclave and to counter unlawful exploitation. He further underscored the importance of collaboration between institutions like GAFCSC and other maritime-sector industries to address the challenges facing the sector, including armed robbery at sea, piracy, and arms smuggling.

Again, he urged participants to leverage the lessons, skills, and networks acquired during the course to help counter the rising tide of piracy and other maritime crimes, thereby protecting global interests.
