The PHDDIP pathway is aimed at advanced research, analytical depth, and scholarly contribution in defence, international politics, and strategic security studies.
The PhD curriculum in Defence and International Politics programme is designed to give students a solid grounding in the history, theories, concepts, and substance of national and international affairs; as well as the skills to conduct original research (that responds to the needs of Ghana, Africa and beyond) and analysis on contemporary military, security and defence issues.
The mission of the programme is to develop reflective professionals who understand the multiple forces at work in national and international security situations and can offer leadership in taking actions to anticipate, analyze, prevent, manage, and resolve issues of defence and security. Indeed, the programme’s overarching mission is to produce a new generation of analysts, policymakers, and researchers/scholars, fully knowledgeable about the range of national, international issues in defence and security problems and foreign policy issues of the 21st Century.
The courses in the programme offer important theoretical frameworks for the PhD. degree programme. The courses provide a foundation for understanding the production and application of social science knowledge in the field of defence and international politics, as a starting point for all students in the programme. These courses help to develop a common frame of reference and give focus to the programme.

This is an 8-semester programme (4 academic years) with a possible four semester extension.
Classes will be held on weekdays at the college premises (in-person). When required, virtual classes shall also be held. There will be no classes on Public Holidays.
