Profile Of Brigadier General WA Seidu, Deputy Commandant, GAFCSC

Brigadier General WA Seidu was born on 2 May 1964 in Paga, Upper East Region. He attended Navrongo Secondary School where he obtained both his Ordinary and Advance Level certificates.

He was enlisted into the Ghana Military Academy on 6 November 1986 as part of Regular Career Course 28. He was commissioned into the Artillery Corps on 19 August 1988 and posted to the 66 Artillery Regiment, then Medium Mortar Regiment.

In Brig Gen Seidu’s quest for academic laurels; he pursued further studies and he holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree (BA Hons) in Political Science and Sociology from the University of Ghana, Legon. He also has a master’s degree in Public Administration from the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA). Further to his credit is a certificate in International Disaster Management from the Cranfield University in UK. He also holds a certificate in Border Security, Counter-Proliferation and Interdiction and a certificate in Strategic Context of Defence Management all from Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Center (KAIPTC).

He attended the Global Peace Operations Initiative, United Nations Peacekeeping Operations, and Contingent Commanders Course in Nairobi, Kenya. He has a certificate in Security, Stability, Transition and Reconstruction (SSTaR) from the George Marshal Institute, Germisch Partenkirchen in Germany. Additionally, Brig Gen Seidu obtained a certificate in Regimental Officers Gunnery from the Nigeria Army Corps of Artillery and Schools, Kontangora, Nigeria.

He attended the Global Peace Operations Initiative, United Nations Peacekeeping Operations, and Contingent Commanders Course in Nairobi, Kenya. He has a certificate in Security, Stability, Transition and Reconstruction (SSTaR) from the George Marshal Institute, Germisch Partenkirchen in Germany. Additionally, Brig Gen Seidu obtained a certificate in Regimental Officers Gunnery from the Nigeria Army Corps of Artillery and Schools, Kontangora, Nigeria.

Brig Gen Seidu has a wealth of experience in peacekeeping. He served with the Economic Committee of West African States Monitoring Group (ECOMOG) in Liberia. He also served with the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) and United Nations Missions in Sierra Leone (UNAMSIL). The rest are United Nations Assistance Mission in Rwanda (UNAMIR), United Nations Stabilisation Mission in DRC (MONUSCO), United Nations Mission in the Central African Republic and Chad (MINURCAT) and the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM).

Brig Gen Seidu has held several Training, Staff and Command appointments in the Ghana Armed Forces Command and Staff College. Prior to his appointment as the Deputy Commandant, he was the Assistant Commandant of the Senior Division.
