CHIEF OF THE AIR STAFF SHARES HIS VISION FOR THE GHANA AIR FORCE

The Chief of the Air Staff, Air Vice Marshal Eric Agyen-Frempong, visited the Ghana Armed Forces Command and Staff College (GAFCSC) on Thursday, 30 October 2025, at 0830 hours to share his vision for the future of the Ghana Air Force.

During the visit, Air Vice Marshal Agyen-Frempong spoke about his plan to make the Ghana Air Force modern, self-reliant and respected nationally and internationally. His plan focuses on six main areas — stable funding, modern technology and research, strong partnerships, skilled personnel, improved infrastructure and wider national reach. He explained that sustainable and diverse funding is key to keeping the Air Force strong and ready. He said new ways of funding are needed to maintain aircraft, improve logistics and support staff welfare. On technology and research, he said the Air Force needs to speed up the employment of technology in its operations and build local research capacity.

He also spoke about the importance of building balanced partnerships with other countries while maintaining independence in decision-making. These partnerships, he said, will help the Ghana Air Force grow and remain effective in a fast-changing volatile, uncertain, complex and ambiguous security environment. On personnel matters, Air Vice Marshal Agyen-Frempong stressed the need to train, develop and retain skilled officers and airmen.

He said a motivated and disciplined team is the foundation of every successful Air Force. He also mentioned plans for better infrastructure and wider operational reach. He said upgrading air bases, radar systems and maintenance centres will help the Ghana Air Force work effectively across the country and support regional operations. In his closing remark, the Chief of Air Staff reiterated that his goal was to make the Ghana Air Force a key part of national defence and a strong contributor to global peace and security.

The Acting Commandant of GAFCSC, Brigadier General Jackson Wonje, thanked Air Vice Marshal Agyen-Frempong for his visit and his inspiring address. He said the College will continue to train officers who will help build a stronger and more professional Air Force.

At the end of the visit, Brigadier General Jackson Wonje exchanged gifts with Air Vice Marshal Agyen-Frempong, showing friendship and respect between the Ghana Air Force and the Ghana Armed Forces Command and Staff College.

The visit ended on a positive note, with officers and students feeling motivated, expressing their enthusiasm to support the Chief of Air Staff’s vision for a modern Air Force and capable of securing national and regional security.
