
GAFCSC CONDUCTS CEREMONY TO OFFICIALLY COMMENCE SENIOR COMMAND AND STAFF COURSE 47
The Ghana Armed Forces Command and Staff College (GAFCSC) on Tuesday, 23 September 2025, held a ceremony at Hamidu Hall, Otu Barracks to officially commence Senior Command and Staff Course 47 (SCSC 47).
The event was attended by the Acting Commandant, Deputy Commandant, Assistant Commandant Senior Division, the Registrar, directors, directing staff, faculty members and other academic staff of the College. The Acting Commandant of the College, Brigadier General Jackson Wonje, delivered the opening address and congratulated the officers on their selection into the prestigious programme. He described the course as a “critical milestone” in their professional military education, preparing them for higher command and staff responsibilities.
“This course is not just about military doctrine… it is about developing your capacity to lead with foresight, collaborate effectively and make sound decisions in complex environments,” Brigadier General Jackson Wonje said.
The Acting Commandant stressed the importance of discipline, punctuality and active participation in all aspects of the course, noting that these values remain fundamental to military excellence. He urged the students to take advantage of the diverse opportunities the programme offers to sharpen their intellectual, ethical and strategic competencies.
Brigadier General Wonje further highlighted the broad range of academic and military programmes run by the College, which includes the Senior Command and Staff Course, Junior Staff Course and the Masters programmes.
The programme run by GAFCSC positions it as a leading hub for advanced military training and leadership development in Africa.
Senior Command and Staff Course 47 brings together middle-level officers from the Ghana Armed Forces and allied African nations, creating a platform for knowledge-sharing, collaboration and regional military cooperation. The Acting Commandant observed that the course curriculum equip students with the knowledge significant to addressing pressing security issues such as terrorism, cybercrime, maritime insecurity and transnational crime – while enhancing their abilities in joint operations planning, leadership and defence policy formulation.
The commencement of SCSC 47, he concluded, reaffirms the College’s mission of producing forward-thinking officers equipped to serve with distinction at the national, regional and international levels.
