GAFCSC MAKES GIANT STRIDES IN INFRASTRUCTURE DEVELOPMENT
The Ghana Armed Forces Command and Staff College has made giant strides in the development of infrastructure. This was made known by the Chief of the Army Staff, Major General (Maj Gen) Bismarck Kwesi Onwona, in an address to staff and students during a working visit to the College on Thursday, March 28, 2024.
As the former Commandant with oversight control of GAFCSC, his visit was aimed at inspecting ongoing projects before he formally hands over to the incoming Commandant of the College.
Maj. Gen. Onwona, during his tenure, initiated numerous projects to foster a conducive environment for both students and staff and ensure efficient administration and optimal learning experiences.
In his presentation, Maj. Gen. Onwona highlighted the introduction of the Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) academic programme as a groundbreaking achievement for the college. He emphasized that the procurement of 130 new books for the college library was to ensure access to the latest information on peacekeeping operations, international relations, and related topics. He added that the installation of some e-resources as well as nine new air conditioning units, represented essential upgrades to the college's library facilities, fostering a comfortable and conducive environment for study and research.
The COAS demonstrated his commitment to enhancing the learning experience at the college by investing significantly in information technology. He made mention of an upgrade of the server room, the installation of LED screens and the upgrade of audio-visual equipment at the various lecture halls, the lay-out of Internet Fibre cables, and a network infrastructure upgrade. He added that 110 customized laptops had been purchased for students, and more were expected from the Ministry of Education and the Defence Section of the British Embassy.
Maj. Gen. Onwona also inspected the progress of some ongoing projects, including the modernization of the entrance gate, which is expected to be completed within the shortest possible time. He also inspected the tiling of the model room and was assured of furnishing the facility with state-of-the-art equipment.
The former Commandant extended appreciation to the entire college staff for their dedication and support in realizing these projects. He emphasized the importance of collaborative efforts in achieving the college's educational objectives and expressed confidence in the continuous success and growth of the college.
