GAFCSC SCSC 47 AIR FACULTY VISITS AFB TAK

The Air Faculty of the Ghana Armed Forces Command and Staff College (GAFCSC) Senior Command and Staff Course (SCSC) 47 has conducted a three-day operational study visit to the Air Force Base Takoradi (AFB Tak) in the Western Region from Tuesday 3 March to Thursday 5 March 2026.

The visit was intended to enhance their practical understanding of air power and operational coordination within the Ghana Armed Forces.

The delegation led by the Chief Instructor Air force division, Group Captain Kwame Alifo first paid a courtesy call on the Base Commander, Air Commodore Eric Yirenkyi where he outlined scheduled activities and stressed on the importance of operational exposure and environmental studies in enriching professional military education. The itinerary, he explained, would include presentations, facility tours, and interactive sessions designed to give participants firsthand insight into the base’s operational framework.

Commanding Officer of Air Traffic Control at AFB Tak Wing Commander Oduro-Gyimah, presented on the Military ATC Unit's role, describing it as a fundamental pillar of aviation safety responsible for preventing collisions and managing air traffic to ensure the secure and efficient movement of aircraft. She highlighted on the unit's mission within the Ghana Air Force, the operational structure, and its critical functions in coordinating search and rescue operations and providing civil aviation services to civilian aircraft. The CO noted that the airport Operates under full military authority and is indispensable for sustaining operational effectiveness and fostering essential collaboration between the base and relevant civil institutions.

Mr. Moses Mensah Yeboah, the Logistics Base Manager for Tallow, briefed the delegation on the organizational structure and staffing on the base, detailing the specific roles and responsibilities of personnel. He underscored that effective collaboration with AFB Tak is crucial for operational efficiency and highlighted notable achievements in logistics management. Additionally, he addressed the challenges they face and outlined the strategic measures and roadmap in place to overcome them.

Following this, the Base Administrative Coordinator for Heliconia, Miss Elizabeth Larbi, presented on the collaboration between AFB Tak and various civil organizations. She emphasized that these partnerships are vital for enhancing operational support, fostering community engagement, and promoting mutual development initiatives.
