
MALAWIAN DEFENCE FORCES COMMAND AND STAFF COLLEGE VISITS GAFCSC
A 28-member delegation from the Malawi Defence Force Senior Command and Staff College, led by the College’s Chief Instructor, Colonel Alfred Luciano Matambo, paid a study visit to the Ghana Armed Forces Command and Staff College (GAFCSC). The delegation was accompanied by Malawi Defence Advisor to Ghana, Brigadier General Chrispin Robert Phiri.
The visit, which took place on Tuesday, 7 October 2025 at 1200 hours, formed part of the delegation’s regional study tour aimed at deepening cooperation among African military institutions and enhancing knowledge exchange on regional peace and security.
The team, comprising officers from Malawi, Zambia, Kenya, Mozambique, Botswana, Tanzania and Uganda, sought to learn about the role of GAFCSC in addressing cross-border security threats and promoting regional stability through joint training and research initiatives.
During the visit, Brigadier General Chrispin Robert Phiri Colonel Alfred Luciano Matambo paid a courtesy call on the Acting Commandant of GAFCSC, Brigadier General Jackson Wonje, where both leaders discussed the need to renew exchange and training programmes between the Ghana Armed Forces and the Malawi Defence Force to strengthen mutual understanding and cooperation.
In a briefing session, Colonel Fifi Deegbe, Director of Research and Development at GAFCSC, delivered a presentation on “Managing Transnational Organised Crime to Foster Regional Security and Development.” He emphasised the importance of collaboration, intelligence sharing and capacity building among African nations to effectively combat emerging cross-border threats such as terrorism, trafficking and piracy.
As part of the visit, both institutions exchanged gifts as a token of friendship and continued partnership between the two Colleges. The gesture symbolised mutual respect and a shared commitment to strengthening defence cooperation and regional solidarity.
The visit further reaffirmed the long-standing partnership between GAFCSC and its sister institutions across the continent, highlighting the College’s pivotal role in promoting professional military education, regional integration and peacebuilding in Africa.
