OPENING OF JUNIOR STAFF COURSE 85 (JSC 85) AT GAFCSC
The Commandant of the Ghana Armed Forces Command and Staff College (GAFCSC), Major General Jackson Wonje, officially opened the Junior Staff Course 85 (JSC 85) at a ceremony held at the Ankrah Hall on Wednesday, 4 February 2026.
The opening marked the formal commencement of the course, which comprises officers drawn from the Ghana Armed Forces and allied services undergoing professional military education at the College.

Addressing the course members, the Commandant underscored the pivotal role of staff officers in translating command decisions into effective action. He emphasized the need for officers to be well-grounded in staff duties, management practices, and organisational systems, noting that the Junior Staff Course is structured to rigorously test the physical endurance, intellectual capacity, and professional discipline of participants.
Maj Gen Wonje stated that the College upholds high academic and professional standards comparable to reputable staff colleges worldwide. He noted that the award of the Postgraduate Diploma in Defence and Security Studies, which forms part of the course, is contingent upon meeting the prescribed academic and professional requirements. Course members will therefore be engaged in intensive academic instruction, practical exercises, and group work in core areas including operations, logistics, security studies, and leadership.

On discipline and ethics, the Commandant cautioned course members against academic malpractice, particularly plagiarism, and stressed that the College maintains a zero-tolerance policy on such offences. He further reminded officers to strictly observe College regulations, maintain punctuality at all activities, and uphold proper military bearing, conduct, and dress at all times.
He concluded by urging course members to approach the programme with seriousness of purpose, discipline, and an open mind, noting that the knowledge, skills, and professional values acquired during the course will enhance their effectiveness and readiness for higher responsibilities in the Service.
